Mom and Dad when they started their married life.
Wassing Family Crest
|
My name is Henny and I am one of the children of Barteld
and Johanna Wassing. They had 13 children, 12 of them lived and you will find their photo's in this collection. On the
left you will find a series of buttons that will bring you to the photo albums of the family Wassing and all the people that
are in some way related to our family. I hope that this collection of photographs will tell their own story. Any questions
you might have, you can send to the address attached to this site. If I have some facts wrong please let me know and I will
correct it. Any family member, immediate or extended, who would like to add to this collection, please send it to me and I
will gladly post it. In these albums you will find photo's of the family as it was, mostly after WW2 and then in later years,
up to this date in 2013. At the
time the family photo was taken, (1946) we had no idea what life would have in store for us and
where it would take us. In 1951 most of the family immigrated to Canada, Trijn and Egbert and Mans and Anna stayed behind.
In the albums you will find out about our lives and the growing of the family. We as brothers and sisters came together often,
either for birthdays, New Years eve or anniversaries party's. Later on not so much but we still came together for camping
trips or home parties. Most of the time only some of the members showed up. It was getting to be a big group and most families
started their own reunions. In 1973 we had our first Wassing Family reunion at Pat and Roy's place, at the farm in Tiviotdale,
Ontario. What a lot of fun that was, we camped right in the big front yard. We were all so young then and the children were
small. We had a reunion one year, in Rockwood park by Guelph, Ontario, also a lot of fun. In 1998 a bunch of us went to BC
to celebrate Arnold and Henny's 50th wedding anniversary. What a good time we all had there too. Arnold had been managing
the grounds in the park there and Henny worked in the office and did the booking at the Radium Hot Springs camp ground. The
owners let us all stay for free except on the weekend but we were not complaining. Steve and Elaine organized another family
reunion and we had a pig roast, that was in 2002. They used one of Elaine's green houses for the meal, a great time. They
had a great bon fire at night but could not be enjoyed the weather had turned cold and nasty, that was to bad but it will
be remembered just the same. To bad those from Holland could not be present for some of these events. We came together again
for funerals as well. It was in 2004 that both Trijn and Mans with Anna, were coming to Canada at the same time. The sisters
in Canada organized a huge Wassing Family reunion in Tiverton, Ontario. It was a big success, after 53 years, we were all
together again, the family members came from far and near to be there. Of course we missed the members that had passed away,
Marcia in 1976, Sip in 1978 and Ted in 2001. In 2011 we had another Wassing Family reunion, also in Tiverton. It was another
3 day event. The family celebrated the fact that they had been in Canada for 60 years. Certificates from Pier 21 of the Immigration
department in Halifax, NS, were handed out to all those that arrived 60 years ago. Rick and I had organized a
golf tournament in memory of our family members that had passed away since 2004, Trijn, Rudy, Sol, Dirk and John. The tournament
also, was a great success, many participated even the ones that came from Holland and had never played golf, you can tell
by some of the photo's that a lot of fun was had. We had asked for an arial photo to be made but that didn't happen, to bad,
it would have been nice to pass on to Pier 21. In the middle of August, 2012, we had another family weekend get together,
in Bancroft, Ontario at Randy and Patrice's cottage. The family are doing a lot of the work them selves and it was not completed
but we had a great time by the lake there with boating and swimming. The weather did not co-operate but it did not stop us,
we still had a great time. And so we all build our own life's and it will go on and the clock keeps ticking. We are now in
the year 2013 and on the 20 of July this year, a lot of us will come together in Radium Hot Springs, BC. to celebrate Arnold
and Henny's wedding anniversary. They have been married for 65 years. They have truly been blessed.
